Our Dallin

Our second son, Dallin Irving DeVard was born June 6, 2010. He was 8 lbs. 4 oz and 20 inches long. I was induced with him one week early because my doctor was afraid his head might be too big to fit on the way out. I went in Friday night and was induced around 6 pm. I had steady contractions all that night but not enough to have really active labor. Around 8 in the morning my OBGYN came in and broke my water to speed things up a bit. Well, that did the trick! By 10 I was hurting so bad that I told them I wanted an epidural. But my nurse told me the anesthesiologist wouldn't be able to be there for a while so they offered me some IV meds for the mean time. I took them... and boy did I regret it. They made me so sick! I was throwing up for the rest of the day! Awful! But despite the sickness I was dilated to a 3.5 when the anesthesiologist came in for the epidural. It went very smoothly. While they waited for the epidural to start working Sterling noticed my contractions were "off the charts." around 11:30 my nurse checked me and said I was dilated at a 10 and the baby was "right there." She quickly called my doctor and before I knew it I was pushing. I couldn't believe I dilated 6.5 cm in and hour. The pushing was kinda slow (due to our baby's big cranium) and honestly the worst part was that between the pushing I had to stop to throw up. But he eventually made it out at 12:45 pm. I was so excited to see his cute little face and full head of hair! Actually I was shocked that his hair was so dark and that he had so much of it (Donovan was practically bald and strawberry blonde). But I had a lot of hair as a newborn too. But he was healthy and alert and started eating right away. We really couldn't have asked for a healthier little guy.

Anyways... now it is three months later and Dallin is thriving...literally. He is almost 18 pounds! No joke. He is off the charts for growth percentiles. He is our little chunky monkey and we all love him to pieces! Especially his big brother Donovan who is always wanting to kiss him (especially when he's napping).

Now that we have Dallin though we realize now how easy of an infant Donovan was. Dallin is much fussier than Donovan ever was. He also has a habit of not wanting to fall asleep until after 1 am. Mommy is not too fond of that one.

He loves to look at faces, talk back with his cute baby language and coos. He enjoys trying fit his fist in his mouth, have tummy time and smile at everyone.

We feel so very blessed and couldn't ask for a better set of boys!
